Neighbor turns girls’ photos into child porn

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. —

A Johns Creek man has been sentenced to six years in prison for manipulating pictures of girls in his neighborhood to make child pornography.

“Six years is a meaningful and deterrent sentence for this defendant,” prosecutor Robert McBurney said.

Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik was in the downtown Atlanta courtroom Thursday where Dirk LaPaglia confessed to the crime. LaPaglia admitted he took pictures of nearly two dozen girls from his Haynes Landing subdivision over a 2-year period and used Photoshop to make explicit images.

Two of the victims told a federal judge they feel violated and have post-traumatic stress over what happened. Tearfully, LaPaglia apologized and said he needs help for a sex addiction. His wife said she’ll stand behind her husband.

LaPaglia will have to report to prison sometime within the next few months. In the meantime, he is banned from his subdivision. After his prison sentence is completed, he will be on supervised release for ten years, and he’ll have to register as a sex offender.
